I may have been born before the internet, but I refuse to be one of those people who can’t embrace technology. In fact, I love technology that makes my life easier. That’s what it’s there for, right? We may not be living like the Jetsons, yet, but here are some quick and easy tech upgrades that will make your life a little easier.
Hear me out…have you ever left a room just to be mad that you forgot to turn off the light? Or perhaps you have a child that is scared of the dark? For us, we like our lights to be on dimmers. In our first house, almost every main light source had a dimmer. This house only has 2 lights on dimmers and it’s triple the size of our last place!
We will eventually spend a ton of money replacing all our light switches to dimmers, but until then smart bulbs are my go to. The first bulbs we will switch to smart bulbs will be the ones in the bedrooms. There’s nothing worse than trying to get ready for bed and you don’t have the means to dim the lights. Set the mood people!
These Philips Hue bulbs are a cheap alternative to replacing all your light switches. And, they are Alexa and Google friendly!
I function so much better when I follow a routine. It doesn’t have to be strict, but knowing that my days start and end in the same way makes me more relaxed and frees up head space for other, more important things. These smart plugs can help give your electronics a routine too!
An added bonus, especially around the holidays, is to plug your holiday lights and decor into one of these smart plugs. You don’t have to remember to turn things on and off, and you can rest assured that you won’t be wasting any more electricity than you absolutely need!
Heads up: if you plan on using smart plugs for your outdoor decor, be sure to purchase ones rated for outdoor use. Here’s a good one for your exterior needs.
Outlets to USB ones
These are perfect to have by your bedside tables. Now you don’t have to hassle with a USB hub hanging out on your side table. Keep the cords to a minimum with this quick and easy tech upgrade.
If you aren’t interested in messing around with your face plates and electrical outlets, this hub just plugs right into your wall socket. It’s a great alternative to keep in your kitchen or office because it has a built-in surge protector. You can keep all your devices charged, and there’s also a handy ledge to perch your phone.
Set it and forget it. Is there anything else to say? This little beast allows me to save money on housekeeping, while still keeping up with all the little feet that run around my floors. I run mine everyday and couldn’t be more in love. Ours is named George and he is the only thing keeping me sane in our giant new house.
If you’re anything like me and don’t have time/don’t want to vacuum everyday, do yourself a favor and buy one of these. George has cut down my housekeeping time by at least an hour everyday. So worth it.
Smart faucets aren’t a necessity, but there’s certainly something nice about having such a fancy upgrade in your home. I am a total sucker when it comes to social media marketing, and when I first saw this faucet on Instagram I definitely wanted one. Did I need one? Absolutely not. But would it be nice to have? For sure.
This particular faucet can link up to your Alexa or Google and you can tell it to dispense a specific amount of water, or that you’re washing your hands and it will turn off for 20 seconds so you know how long to scrub your hands together. In all honesty, I’m probably not going to upgrade my kitchen faucet to a touch-free, but if you’ve done it I’d love to hear what you think!
Front door smart lock
We actually have a smart lock on the backdoor and I absolutely love it! I have never liked carrying keys, likely because I’ve never had keys for any of my parents houses. Yes, I grew up in a household that never locked the front door. But, of course, I married a man who not only locks the front door, but also sets the house alarm!
These smart door locks seem like the perfect compromise for us! We can always have the door locked, and I never have to worry about carrying keys on my person. Win-win!
This is a quick and easy tech upgrade that so many people have on their homes! My in-laws got a Ring last year, and they love it. It was incredibly easy to install and gives a huge amount of comfort when you’re not home, or you can’t hear/see people coming to your front door. We haven’t upgraded to a video doorbell yet, but I don’t think that day is too far away.
